Luke 24:13–35 (ESV)

Pastor Scott Berglin
God from Luke’s Eyes to Yours

“He Visits in Person pt. 2” (Easter) | April 5, 2026

“O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!” — Luke 24:25

On Easter, we see that Jesus doesn’t just rise—He walks with us. On the road to Emmaus, the risen Christ meets discouraged followers, explains the Scriptures, and ultimately reveals Himself. Pastor Scott reminded us that Jesus’ resurrection is not just an event to celebrate—it is a reality to experience. He comes near so that what was once confusing becomes clear, what was distant becomes personal, and what was doubted becomes believed.

So You Can Recognize Him

v 31

  • Their eyes were opened—not just physically, but spiritually.
  • Jesus is often present before He is recognized.
  • Recognition comes when God reveals what we could not see on our own.

So You Can Know Him

v 35

  • The disciples didn’t just see Jesus—they knew Him in relationship.
  • He made Himself known in the breaking of bread.
  • Resurrection faith is personal, not just informational.

So You Can Believe in Him

v 25–26

  • Jesus corrected their misunderstanding by pointing to Scripture.
  • Belief grows when we understand God’s plan through His Word.
  • The cross and resurrection were not interruptions—they were the plan all along.

So You Can Be Redeemed by Him

v 21

  • Their hope had been misplaced in what they expected Jesus to do.
  • Jesus redefined redemption—not political, but eternal.
  • The risen Christ fulfills the deepest need of every heart.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Jesus meets us even when we don’t recognize Him.
  • Scripture reveals the truth that strengthens belief.
  • Knowing Jesus is relational, not just intellectual.
  • The resurrection confirms God’s redemptive plan.

  • Lean into Scripture: Let God’s Word reshape your understanding of His plan.
  • Pursue relationship: Move beyond knowing about Jesus to truly knowing Him.
  • Respond in faith: Choose belief, even when understanding is still growing.
