God from Luke’s Eyes to Yours

(from the Gospel of Luke)
“And he said to him, ‘You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.’” — Luke 10:28
A lawyer approached Jesus with a test question, but Jesus responded with questions of His own. Rather than merely discussing theology, Jesus redirected the conversation toward the heart. Through the parable of the Good Samaritan, He revealed that loving God and loving people cannot be separated. Pastor Scott reminded us that faith is not measured by what we know alone, but by how we live out what we know.
God Teaches Us to Elevate Our Pursuits
v 26 — “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?”
- Jesus challenged the lawyer to move beyond information to transformation.
- The goal of Scripture is not merely knowledge—it is love for God and others.
- What we pursue reveals what we value most.
Bring Neighbors Across the Street, to Your Feet
v 29 — “And who is my neighbor?”
- The lawyer wanted limits; Jesus expanded the definition.
- Neighbor love crosses boundaries, preferences, and comfort zones.
- God calls us to see people not as interruptions, but as opportunities to love.
Love Is Proving You're a Neighbor
v 36
- Jesus shifted the question from “Who is my neighbor?” to “Will I be a neighbor?”
- Love is demonstrated through action, compassion, and sacrifice.
- The Samaritan didn't merely feel concern—he acted on it.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Jesus often answers questions by exposing deeper heart issues.
- Loving God and loving people are inseparable.
- Neighbor love requires action, not just intention.
- Compassion often costs time, comfort, and resources.
- The question isn't who qualifies as our neighbor—it’s whether we are acting like one.
CALL TO ACTION
- Examine your pursuits: Are your priorities drawing you closer to God and people?
- See the people around you: Ask God to help you notice those in need.
- Choose compassion: Look for one practical way to serve someone this week.
- Be a neighbor: Don't wait for the perfect opportunity—start where you are.
Love isn't measured by what we say—it is revealed by what we do.
