God from Luke’s Eyes to Yours
“Remedies – Dr. Luke's Prescription for a Common Life” | June 7, 2026
(from the Gospel of Luke)
“And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” — Luke 11:9
This week, guest speaker Mark Campbell reminded us that many of life's struggles stem from a common condition: trying to control what was never ours to control. Through the stories of Martha, Mary, and Jesus' teaching on prayer, we were shown God's remedy for anxious striving and distracted living. The answer isn't trying harder—it's drawing nearer. Prayer and communion with the Holy Spirit are not spiritual extras; they are God's prescription for a healthy, flourishing life.
The Problem: The Illusion of Control
Luke 10:38–42
- Martha was busy doing good things but became consumed by them.
- Control often disguises itself as responsibility, productivity, or concern.
- Anxiety grows when we try to carry what belongs to God.
"Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things..." — Luke 10:41
The Remedy: Pray... Duh!
Luke 11:1–4
- The disciples recognized their need and asked Jesus to teach them to pray.
- Prayer reorients our hearts around God's priorities and purposes.
- The Lord's Prayer teaches dependence, surrender, and trust.
The Prescription: Commune with the Spirit
Luke 11:5–13
- Jesus invites persistence in prayer because God is a loving Father.
- The greatest gift God gives is not merely answers—it is His presence.
- Communion with the Holy Spirit transforms ordinary lives into Spirit-led lives.
