God from Luke’s Eyes to Yours

“Live My History As It Happens… (Instead of Trying to Write It Ahead of Time)” | June 28, 2026

(from the Gospel of Luke)

“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” — Luke 12:34

This week, Rock Bible Church Elder John Tompkins challenged us to stop trying to script the future and instead trust God as He faithfully writes our story day by day. In Luke 12, Jesus addresses the deepest issues of the soul—fear, worry, possessions, and misplaced priorities. Rather than living anxiously for what might happen tomorrow, Jesus invites us to treasure His kingdom today. Our history is best lived one faithful step at a time, trusting the Author who already knows the ending.

How Do I Address My Soul?

Luke 12:13–21

  • Jesus exposed the rich fool's greatest problem—not his wealth, but the condition of his soul.
  • Our soul needs truth more than temporary security.
  • The questions we ask ourselves shape the life we pursue.

A healthy soul listens to God before it listens to itself.

What Do I Choose for My Soul?

Luke 12:22–31

  • Jesus calls us to choose trust instead of anxiety.
  • Worry cannot add to our lives, but it can distract us from living them.
  • God's faithful care for creation reminds us of His care for His children.

Anxiety about worldly things is absurd, futile, and foul because our Father already knows what we need.

What Is My Treasure?

Luke 12:32–34

  • Our treasure reveals where our heart truly rests.
  • Earthly possessions are temporary; God's kingdom is eternal.
  • Jesus invites us to invest in what lasts forever.

What History Do I Choose to Live?

  • Every day presents a choice: write our own story or trust God's.
  • Faith means following Jesus one chapter at a time.
  • God's plan is not merely about our future—it transforms how we live today.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • The condition of your soul matters more than the condition of your circumstances.
  • Anxiety loses its grip when trust grows in God's faithful provision.
  • Your treasure always reveals your true priorities.
  • God calls us to live today's obedience instead of tomorrow's worries.
  • The greatest story is the one God is writing through surrendered lives.

CALL TO ACTION

  • Speak truth to your soul: Let God's promises shape your inner life.
  • Release your worries: Trust your heavenly Father with tomorrow.
  • Evaluate your treasure: Ask what currently holds your heart's greatest affection.
  • Live today's chapter faithfully: Let God write your history one day at a time.

Peace comes when we stop trying to write tomorrow and trust the Author of our story.
