Luke 12:35–59 (ESV)

Pastor Scott Berglin
God from Luke’s Eyes to Yours

“Ready for the Master” | July 5, 2026

(from the Gospel of Luke)

“You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” — Luke 12:40

Jesus calls His followers to live with alertness, discernment, and readiness. In Luke 12, He warns against spiritual complacency and reminds His people that the Master is coming again. Pastor Scott challenged us to stop acting as though we don’t know what God is doing. We often recognize the signs of weather, culture, and circumstance—but Jesus presses us to interpret life through the lens of God’s kingdom. Readiness isn’t panic; it’s faithful living with eyes open, hearts aligned, and lives prepared.

You Know What You See

v 40, 54–55

  • Jesus confronts the disconnect between physical awareness and spiritual blindness.
  • The crowds could interpret the weather, but they missed the urgency of the moment.
  • God has not left His people without signs, truth, or clarity.

We often know more than we act on. Readiness begins by admitting what God has already shown us.

His Will Is Common, Simple, Known & Doable

v 56–57

  • Jesus rebuked the crowd for failing to judge rightly what was right in front of them.
  • God’s will is not hidden behind mystery for those who are willing to listen and obey.
  • Much of spiritual growth is not discovering something new, but doing what we already know.

Exercise Your Judgment as God Interprets

v 37–38, 40, 57

  • Jesus calls His followers to discern with kingdom wisdom.
  • Readiness requires more than information—it requires faithful interpretation and response.
  • The wise servant is not merely watching the clock, but living in a way that honors the Master.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Readiness for Christ’s return is a daily posture, not a one-time decision.
  • Spiritual discernment means seeing life the way God sees it.
  • We are accountable for the truth God has already made clear.
  • God’s will is often simpler and more practical than we make it.
  • The faithful life is one of watchfulness, obedience, and right judgment.

CALL TO ACTION

  • Stay awake spiritually: Ask God to sharpen your awareness of what He is doing.
  • Do what you already know: Obey the truth God has already made clear.
  • Judge rightly: Filter your decisions through God’s Word, not just your feelings or circumstances.
  • Live ready: Let today reflect the reality that Jesus is coming again.

Readiness for the Master is not fear-driven—it is faith-filled, watchful obedience.
