Luke 3 (ESV)
Pastor Scott Berglin
God from Luke’s Eyes to Yours
“Preparing His Way” | February 1, 2026
This week in Luke 3, we encountered the voice crying out in the wilderness—John the Baptist—calling God’s people to prepare for the arrival of the King. Pastor Scott reminded us that preparation is not passive. God’s way is made ready through repentance, expectancy, integrity, and contentment. When God steps onto the scene, hearts must be aligned, lives must be reordered, and obedience must follow.
“In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord;
make straight in the desert a highway for our God.” — Luke 3:4 (Isaiah 40:3)
Main Points
1 Repent: Follow Him, Starting with Baptism
v. 3, 7–8, 12, 16, 21
When the crowds asked, “What then shall we do?” the answer was clear—repent. True repentance is not just feeling sorry; it is a decisive turning toward God that leads to changed actions. Baptism marked the beginning of a transformed life aligned with God’s coming kingdom.
2 Stay on Your Toes: Expect God to Be on the Scene
v. 4, 6, 8, 15–16, 22, 38
God was moving, and those paying attention sensed it. John’s message stirred expectation because God always fulfills His promises. When God shows up, everything changes—and we must be ready.
(Isaiah 40:3–5)
3 Practice Integrity: Stay within Your Authority
v. 9, 13–14, 16, 18
John called people to live faithfully right where God had placed them. Integrity is shown when we honor God in our roles, resist abusing authority, and recognize that Jesus alone is the Savior.
4 Be Content: Value What He Gave You—and Share
v. 11, 13–14
Repentance reshapes how we view possessions and provision. Contentment frees us to trust God and generously share with others, reflecting hearts transformed by His grace.
