Luke 6:7
“And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they might find a reason to accuse him.”
Sermon Recap
In Luke 6, Jesus confronts the human tendency to look for reasons—either to resist Him or to follow Him. The Pharisees scrutinized Jesus, not to understand Him, but to accuse Him. In contrast, Jesus calls His followers to examine what they are looking for, whose voice they are listening to, and which choices they are willing to act upon. True discipleship is not passive observation but active alignment with Christ’s priorities. When we shift from watching Jesus to trusting, hearing, and choosing Him, our values, blessings, and direction are transformed.
Think: Know What You Look For
v. 2, 7, 18–19
What you’re searching for shapes what you see. The Pharisees watched Jesus to accuse; the crowds came to be healed. Faith begins by examining the posture of our hearts and the lens through which we evaluate Jesus.
Observe: HEAR His Voice
v. 5, 8, 9, 10
Jesus doesn’t just act—He speaks with authority. Even under scrutiny, His voice brings clarity, conviction, and compassion. Discipleship requires attentiveness to what Jesus says, not just reactions to what He does.
Choose & Act: Pick His Choices
v. 20–26
Jesus lays out a countercultural reality: blessing comes through surrender, not status. Woes expose misplaced priorities. Following Jesus means choosing His values—even when they contradict comfort, approval, or control.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- What you look for determines what you will find — accusation or amazement.
- Hearing Jesus requires more than proximity; it demands humble attention.
- Obedience always follows clarity of belief.
- Jesus redefines blessing — not by comfort, but by kingdom alignment.
- Faith is not passive observation; it is active participation.
CALL TO ACTION
- Examine your lens: Ask God to reveal what you’re really looking for when you approach Him.
- Lean in and listen: Spend intentional time in Scripture this week, not to critique, but to hear.
- Choose His way: Identify one area where Jesus’ priorities challenge your own—and act in obedience.
- Live the blessing: Align your life with eternal values, not temporary approval.
Stop watching Jesus from a distance. Step into following Him with trust.
