God from Luke’s Eyes to Yours

“Set Free for What?” | July 12, 2026

(from the Gospel of Luke)

“When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, ‘Woman, you are freed from your disability.’” — Luke 13:12

Luke 13 reminds us that Jesus doesn't simply set people free from something—He sets them free for something. Through His call to repentance, the parable of the barren fig tree, and the healing of the crippled woman, Jesus reveals God's desire to restore lives that bear fruit, glorify Him, and experience lasting joy. Pastor Scott challenged us to see ourselves through Christ's eyes rather than through our past, our pain, or our limitations. True freedom begins when we repent, receive His grace, and walk in the new life He provides.

Calling You to See Yourself as He Sees You = Repent

v 3, 5, 6, 12, 15

  • Jesus repeatedly calls people to repentance—not condemnation.
  • Repentance is changing our minds to align with God's perspective.
  • Jesus sees people through the lens of redemption, not merely brokenness.

Freedom begins when we agree with God about who we are and whose we are.

From Your Greatest Disabilities

v 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 12, 15–17

  • Jesus addressed more than physical suffering—He confronted spiritual bondage.
  • The greatest disability is anything that keeps us from fully knowing and following God.
  • Christ has authority to free us from what sin, fear, and the enemy have held captive.

With Joy, Through Experiences with Him

v 9, 12, 13, 17

  • The woman's healing led immediately to worship and rejoicing.
  • Encounters with Jesus produce joy because they reveal His power and compassion.
  • God's work in our lives becomes a testimony that encourages others.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Jesus sets us free to live transformed lives.
  • Repentance is an invitation into freedom, not shame.
  • Christ sees our identity beyond our struggles and failures.
  • God desires fruitfulness, not fruitlessness.
  • Joy naturally follows genuine encounters with Jesus.

CALL TO ACTION

  • Repent daily: Ask God to help you see yourself through His truth rather than your circumstances.
  • Receive His freedom: Bring areas of bondage and brokenness to Jesus.
  • Bear fruit: Live in a way that reflects the transformation Christ has begun in you.
  • Celebrate His work: Share the joy of what Jesus has done in your life with others.

Jesus doesn't simply remove our burdens—He restores our purpose.
